Fouta Pony

Fouta is a small breed of pony derived from Senegal in West Africa. It was developed from the local pony races and they are currently used as pack animals or for transportation.

Fouta ponies have been developed in Senegal since the early 1900s through the intersections of two local pony breeds, the Fleuve horse Fouta Ponyand M’Bayar pony. The development was rapid and resulted in a strong pony, however without much charisma. Senegal has been a great horse country in Africa where horses are indispensable for the population which led to the Fouta growing quickly in numbers.

Fouta is a strong and tenacious breed but not especially beautiful, and without charisma. The head is commonplace and narrow and the horses have very little hair. But they are ideal as pack animals for transportation and even for a little riding.
