Hirzai Horse

The Hirzai is a breed of horse from Pakistan, which is mainly used as a light riding horse. The horses are usually white or grey and are very rare. According to tradition they were bred by the khans in Khal area and were the best breeding horses.

Historically it is recorded that one of the horse breeds used in agriculture in Pakistan, was a herd of Hirzai bred from a senior politician’s horse, a mare named Scholes, who was crossed with an Arabian stallion that belonged to a European officer, who was stationed there during the Afghan war in 1839.

The offspring was then crossed out with lighter desert horses to avoid inbreeding.
The best horses seemed to always be the highest ranking in the country, and breeding was determined later by Khan in Khal who lent his breeding horses for only a few well-selected mares.

Even today, the best breeders are kept by the Khan, but the breed is rare and is almost an endangered species.

Attributes

The Arabic influence is clearly visible in the Hirzai with its fine build with noble features such as easy inwards curving Muzzle and broad forehead. The body is compact with a short back, and although the breed is small and lightweight it has speed, strength and resilience and is mainly used as a riding horse.

The Horses can be any full color but are almost always grey, or both grey and white.
