Hungarian Warmblood Horse

The Hungarian Warmblood is a breed from Hungary, which was developed through crosses of various Hungarian Warmblood horses such as the Nonius and the Furioso. The horses are beautiful and intelligent and are used in all riding disciplines up to elite competition levels.

They are riding and driving horses of a high-quality and horses are subjected to tests and inspections before approval for breeding.

After the Hungarian-Austrian Empire had dissolved, the Hungarian studs reached a great success with the development of the Austrian Warmblood and the Hungarian breeders now wanted to compete with the race to develop a fine breed of horse a race which then belonged to Austria.

The breed was developed by using the same base as the Hungarian Warmblood breeds the Gidran Arab, Furioso, Kisber Felver and Noniushastar that would later be bred to the high class German Warmblood Holstein, and Hanoverian horses.

Although the Dutch Warmblood was selected to cross breed, the stud was very selective in the horses they bred. The State Stud Mezohegyes, started inspections and testing of stallions before they were used in breeding, a practice used even today.

The horses are tested by a committee of jumping and dressage professionals before they can get a license for inclusion in the breeding programme and entered into the studbook.

To further enhance the quality and performance of these horses permission is sometimes granted to allow out crossing with top class Warmblood horses and English thoroughbred horses.
