Mangalarga Horse

The Mangalarga is the generic name for the two races Mangalarga Marchador Mangalarga Paulista and the Brazilian horse. They were Mangalarga infocreated by Gabriel Francisco Junqueira, Baron of Alfenas, Alter Real for breeding stallions crossed themselves with the Portuguese colonial horses in Brazil. From these crosses originated the first race Mangalarga Marchador.

When the family moved to Sao Paulo Junqueira, sites and local culture led her to seek a horse with different characteristics and thus began the Mangalarga Marchador crossing with other breeds: Hackney; Morgan; American Saddlebred; Hannover and Trakehner. This led to a completely different breed from the original Mangalarga Marchador: the Mangalarga Paulista.

The Mangalarga Marchador differs from Mangalarga Paulista by its softer step and more direct link with the Iberian horse. The welcoming nature is inherited from Andalusia. The Mangalarga knew Paulista was a horse of duration and strength. It has a specific and comfortable gait for the march of Trotta (Trotta Marchado).

The two races are so different they have different thoroughbred registers.
